After having being colonized by the English and Scottish in the 17th and 19th century, this impracticable and scarcely productive territory was abandoned and exploited only by a few fishermen until its population decreased considerably. The island was not a tourist destination for a long time and was totally forgotten by the operators of the hotel sector. Only in the 1960s, an entrepreneur from Martinique built a hotel, an airport and founded the Anchorage Yacht Club that was then managed by an Austrian company able to valorise the resources of the territory, in a wise way. It is the mooring point for any cruise on a rented sailing boat in the Grenadines: here you can stock up with water, fuel and buy food and beverages in the markets on land. |
